I Promise You, the fourth (!!) book in the Waylon University series is out now! It was released two days ago, on Monday, but today I have my review of the ARC for you all! Thank you to Ilsa for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review — I’m so pumped to be involved with the blog tour! This is my first time reading one of Ilsa’s ARCs, even though I’ve read an loved the rest of the series. (I Dare You, I Bet You, and I Hate You)
All of the books that take place at Waylon University can 100% be read as standalones, but there are some brief mentions of characters from the previous books that are exciting if you’ve read the first three.
I’m going to be keeping this review as spoiler-free as possible, but if you end up reading this book, make sure to come back and comment! I’d love to discuss it with all of you!
Dillon McQueen: Babe. I promise. You want me.
Serena Jensen: Um, who are you?
There’s a legend at Waylon University: the first girl you kiss freshman year at the bonfire party is the one you’ll never forget. She’ll crawl under your skin and never leave. She’ll spark a passion so fierce you’ll burn the world down to possess her.
You might even put a ring on it.
As in all things with fate, timing is everything. That kiss can go horribly wrong. She might run in the opposite direction. And boy, did Serena run.
Dillon is Waylon’s hotshot quarterback with something to prove. All he wants is to graduate and make it to the NFL. What he doesn’t need is to finally meet the mystery girl he kissed at the bonfire freshman year. Isn’t it enough that she’s haunted his dreams for more than a thousand nights?
Fate laughs in his face when he runs into the quirky girl at the Piggly Wiggly. Surrounded by his entourage, he’s got all the Oreos in his cart; she gets revenge by buying every six-pack of his favorite beer.
Obviously, that legend is a curse. She’s not his type. She hates him. Worst of all, how can she not remember him when she left a Serena-shaped hole in his heart for the past three years?
So why can’t he stop trying to win her?
Will this quarterback score the girl or make the biggest fumble of his life?
Rating: 5/5 Stars
It’s been almost a year and a half since I first started reading Ilsa’s books set at Waylon, so naturally when I heard that a fourth one was being released, I knew I had to get my hands on it ASAP!
The book is told from two POVs, Serena and Dillon’s. Like I said, it’s been awhile since I read the other books in the series, but this one just *might* be my favorite…(and I’m definitely game for a Sinclair/Romy book in the future).
Dillon was a real sweetheart. Granted, he wasn’t so sweet right at the start, but he seemed to not have as much of a cocky attitude as the previous male leads in the series. Plus, having Serena’s sister and Nana be bigger parts of the story allowed for really fun scenes where Dillon was shoved into their strange family dynamic, which was interesting to read.
I don’t think I’ve ever read a book where one of the characters is in grad school — Serena is in grad school, and Dillon is a senior in college. As a senior myself right now, it was fun to read about characters my own age/slightly older, but still in school.
As with the rest of the series, I’d recommend this for 17+ due to some sexual content, but again, don’t let me tell you what you can and can’t read. Overall, I really enjoyed this book — I’d highly recommend this book (and the whole series) to new adult romance fans, especially those who love sports romances like I do!
