[ARC REVIEW] “Mine to Gain” (Queen City Chaos #2) By: Maggie Rawdon

The second book in Maggie Rawdon’s Queen City Chaos series is out now!

What is Mine to Gain by Maggie Rawdon about?

I only have room for two things in my life: football and my daughter.
At least until my brother’s ex-girlfriend shows up at my team’s stadium needing a white knight.

When I find out she’s also got a secret summer checklist that I’m uniquely qualified for?
I’ve forgotten all the reasons she should be off limits, and I’m signing up to be more than just her part-time bodyguard.

But when the threats she’s receiving escalate and the danger is at our doorstep, we have to decide if more than one summer is worth fighting for—whatever the cost.

Rating: 4/5 Stars

Review:

“Mine to Gain” is the second book in Maggie Rawdon’s Queen City Chaos series, following Beatrix and Cooper. We saw Beatrix a few times in the first book of this series, as she works with Madison Westfield on PR, but she’s also Xander’s sister (who you’ll remember from both the previous book, “Rival Hearts,” as well as his own love story, “Pick Six,” which is part of the Seattle Phantom series).

I had assumed that “Mine to Gain” would pick up roughly around where “Rival Hearts” left off, but it actually started in the middle or so of Quentin and Madison’s love story. It was cool to see the overlap of what was going on with Bea and Cooper that we didn’t really know about while reading “Rival Hearts,” as well as seeing Madison and Quentin from an outside perspective.

I’m loving getting to read stories about the siblings of the characters from the first two series, “Plays & Penalties” and “Seattle Phantom” — I’ll live in Maggie’s fictional football world for as long as she’ll let me. Getting to see the characters from the previous two series is also one of my favorite things, so that was another reason why I liked this book so much!

Bea and Cooper kind of have the forbidden thing going on, in the sense that Bea used to be dating Cooper’s brother, Rob, on and off, which is how they originally met. Bea has a great relationship with Lizzy, Cooper’s daughter, before the book even starts, and it was fun seeing how well the two of them got along. As for Bea and Cooper’s relationship, I love a roommates to lovers plot, and these two didn’t disappoint! As always, all of the side characters are a lot of fun, and I can’t wait for the next book in the series!

As with all new adult/adult romances, I recommend this for 18+ due to some of the mature content – but also as always, don’t let me tell you what to do!
