Today’s review is a little bit different than the normal romances I typically post about – this one is a vampire romance (and the first one in a new series, by a new author I haven’t read before)!
What is Cursed Lifeline by Evelyn Montgomery about?
The Slayer.
It’s been centuries since the first time my eyes have feasted on such a tempting sight.
She’s been expecting me just as much as I’ve anticipated her.
Her happiness is my damned heart’s perilous undertaking.
Her protection was my lost soul’s last dying wish.
The coven doesn’t know our secret.
A curse, with a promising loophole, several centuries old sealed in blood.
Haunted time and again by her imminent, unforeseen death, her soul continues to call to me from beyond the grave.
Beckoning me closer, she tempts me to play life’s game with her.
One. More. Damned. Time.
The only way to keep her safe in her next life is to stay away.
The problem is, her mortal presence makes me yearn to find a way to save her soul, even if it means our cursed love ends with her running a stake through the only thing I long to offer her.
My heart.
Rating: 4/5 Stars

Review:
I thought the premise of the book was super interesting – it reminded me a bit of the Fallen series by Lauren Kate. There were a lot of POVs, which made it a bit difficult to figure out who each person really was, especially since who Esme thought they were (aka how we first originally meet a lot of the characters) wasn’t the full picture on the characters so as more was revealed it was a little hard to reconceptualize them. A lot of characters are introduced pretty quickly, so that was part of it too.
However, if you stick with the book, there’s a bit of an info dump chapter that puts the prologue and most of the characters in context all at the same time, so that was helpful (and interesting). Felix and Esme fell in love really quickly, for really no reason, other than that they were fated mates, so even though there wasn’t much substance there at first, it didn’t take away from my reading of the story.
I don’t typically read books that are set in the past or with multiple timelines, so sometimes I was a little confused on how much time has passed between different events, and was a switch from what I’m used to, although that wasn’t a bad thing. Overall, I enjoyed reading it. I do recommend it for 18+ due to some of the mature content, which is listed at the beginning of the book so you know what you’re getting into before you read. This was my first time reading anything by Evelyn Montgomery, but I would be interested in continuing the series!
