[REVIEW] ‘We Were Never Here’ by: Jennifer Gilmore

Sixteen year old Lizzie Stroller suddenly collapses with an unknown illness. Connor Bryant and his dog Verlaine are visiting the patients at the hospital where Lizzie is staying. As they grow closer, Lizzie realizes that the boy she’s falling in love with has secrets and struggles of his own, and as Lizzie struggles to heal, so does Connor.

Rating: 2/5 stars

I liked this book. I liked Lizzie, and I liked Connor. At the beginning, I really really liked Connor, but as the book progressed I started liking him less and less. While I understood the speed and nature of their relationship, it felt really sudden that Lizzie was suddenly in love with him. That didn’t feel 100% believable, because it seemed like they moved really fast.  It’s as though Connor suddenly grew into a giant cliche, and not in a good way. Almost what felt like a sort of Romeo and Juliet way. The ending was a definitive ending, which I liked. I would recommend this book as one you should read eventually, but not one you need to rush out and buy right now.
