I posted this review a few weeks ago with a photo of the ARC, but @sourcebooksfire sent me a final copy (thank you!) & asked that I repost with the new cover! I adore the updated cover, it’s gorgeous & I LOVE that it’s matte instead of glossy! It’s available now!!
*This review is still of the ARC, not the final copy!
Synopsis:
Candy Rex is an aspiring filmmaker stuck at a boring boarding school where nothing ever happens. Until Candy gets kidnapped. Suddenly, she’s off on a road trip adventure with her cute kidnapper Levon–but this abduction isn’t just about a ransom. It’s about getting revenge on Candy’s rockstar father. As Levon and Candy travel to Miami, they find themselves on an adventure that neither of them expected.

Review:
Overall I thought this book was a fun, easy read. Candy is a likable, interesting narrator. She has a very clear voice, and she kept me engaged throughout the story. Levon is less likable, but it’s hard for me to pinpoint exactly why (without giving out a minor detail that never really gets resolved). He was a decently dynamic character, and well written, but his personality didn’t totally suck me in, like in other YA contemporaries I’ve read recently have.
I thought the plot was decently thought out and explored. I wish the ending had been a bit more definitive between Levon and Candy, instead of being open ended, but that’s a personal pet peeve and I can respect and understand what the author was trying to do. I’d recommend this book to anyone who likes contemporary YA, and who wants a quick, easy read.
