As I am sure all of you are well aware, there is a huge difference between reading books or fun and being forced to read them for school.
This term, I am in a class called ‘Reading Literature’, where, as the title suggests, we read literature. Out of all the readings I have had to do for that class, the only one that I posted as a book review was ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’. While I may decide to post reviews of the others at a later date, I have chosen right now not to.
The books are not necessarily in my reading demographic that I am aiming for with this blog, and quite frankly I did not enjoy those books. However, I might end up posting reviews for them eventually so I can share my thoughts on them with you and get all of your opinions as well.
To be brutally honest, if the only time and kinds of books I read were from school, whether that be high school, college or any other type of school, I would hate reading. A lot of my classmates absolutely despise books because of the content that they are forced to read in school.
I am a firm believer that most people who hate to read simply have not found the right type of book that they like yet. If their only exposure is in school and the genres are not what they are interested in, in my experience they tend to start to harbor a strong dislike for any and all kinds of reading books.
Long story short, I do not really like the majority of books that I have to read as part of a classroom curriculum, but obviously I love reading other books.
What are your thoughts on reading for fun versus reading as part of a school curriculum? Let me know in the comments.
