Last year, Kat Singleton’s “Black Ties and White Lies” blew up online, and everyone has been eagerly awaiting news about more books in the series…and now, the second book in the series is here! “Pretty Rings and Broken Things” follows Winnie Bishop and Archer Moore (you’ll remember Winnie from “Black Ties and White Lies”), who enter into an arranged marriage to protect Winnie’s reputation. Keep reading to see the adorable wedding invitation, and to read the full synopsis (+ my review)! The book is free to read in Kindle Unlimited.
What is Pretty Rings and Broken Things by Kat Singleton about?
Pretty rings can’t always fix broken things.
Unfortunately, that doesn’t stop powerful men from trying. Which is why instead of getting the wedding I’d always dreamed of, I was forced to marry the heir to our rival company and join a family that we’ve hated for generations.
An arranged marriage to make our problem disappear.
Then again, I’m the one that snuck around behind my father’s back and ended up at the center of a scandal that could ruin my family’s reputation.
Now the only person who can protect me is the cold and calculated billionaire, Archer Moore.
The marriage was only supposed to be for show, but Archer can be very convincing. He’s demanded we move in together. That we kiss. That we make it look—and feel—real. He’s a man who is obsessed with getting what he wants—and I’m starting to think what he wants is me.
But the closer we get, and the less we pretend, the more I question if the grudges between our families are too much to overcome for a marriage that was built on pretty rings and broken things.
Pretty Rings and Broken Things is a billionaire, arranged marriage romance releasing early 2024. It is Winnie’s book and a complete standalone.
Rating: 4.5/5 Stars
Review:
Although this book can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend reading “Black Ties & White Lies” first, as well as “Tempt Our Fate,” which is the second book in Kat’s Sutten Mountain series. (Honestly, I’d really recommend reading her books in order starting at “Founded on Goodbye” in the Mixtape series, because a) I loved those books and b) characters are referenced and show up in various capacities in her later books, and it’ll really enrich your reading experience to understand the references!
I enjoyed “Black Ties & White Lies,” but I found myself more invested with “Pretty Rings & Broken Things,” I’m not exactly sure why — I just found myself wanting to read it more when I had to put it down. It’s a pretty long book (see what I did there?), so I don’t think most people would sit and read it in one sitting. It’s an age gap romance, (whether that’s your thing or not!) with Archer being I believe about 10 years, maybe a little more, older than her. The age gap kind of adds to it feeling a little coercion-y in how they first get together, mostly because it’s an arranged marriage, but obviously it ends up working out for the best. With that being said, I really did like Winnie and Archer together. He’s drawn to her right from the start, even though he didn’t want to see her as much more than a business transaction. He’s immediately very protective over her, both with her family and with outside forces.
I also loved that we got to see characters from Kat’s previous books, namely Margo and Beck from “Black Ties & White Lies,” and Pippa and Camden from “Tempt Our Fate” (Sutten Mountain series) — not to mention, more of Winnie and Margo’s other best friend, Emma, who gets her own love story in the third and final book in the series, “Bright Lights & Summer Nights” which will be released this summer! There’s some fun foreshadowing for that, too.
Overall, I think this was a really strong addition to the series, and I hope we get to see more of Winnie and Archer in Emma’s book! There’s also an extra extended epilogue that you can download as well, which is awesome because you can never have too much content!

Special thanks to Kat for allowing me to read an ARC as a member of her content team! The book is available to read for free on Kindle Unlimited now, and paperbacks are available in the main cover, and the alternate cover! I highly recommend the book for 18+ due to some of the sexual content, but as always, don’t let me tell you what to do!
