[ARC REVIEW] “Karma’s Kiss” By: R.S. Grey

Karma’s Kiss by R.S. Grey (aka romcom queen) is out now!

What is Karma’s Kiss by R.S. Grey about?

Every small-town girl has known a Sawyer Garnett. He’s the dimpled dreamboat we used to fantasize about in algebra class, the hometown heartbreaker with no shortage of outraged exes. But unlike most golden boys, this one didn’t peak in high school. Oh no no. Like the fine wine at the vineyard he’s the literal heir to, Sawyer’s only gotten better with age.

Nobody is more annoyed that karma has yet to find Sawyer than my best friend, his old flame. Just hearing his name makes her curse the day he was born. “That man deserves to learn a lesson” turns into a vengeance vow that puts me on a collision course with Sawyer himself.

Go out on a date with him? Easy-peasy. Flirt and play along? No sweat. Let him slip his hands beneath my sundress amidst the lush grapevines? Well…maybe a little bit of sweat.

It’s not long before our simple plan for payback turns into Texas-sized trouble. Under the spell of Sawyer’s piercing brown eyes, my pretend passion threatens to ignite the flimsy facade I’ve built up against him. I’ll just have to stay focused. If I want justice for my friend and every other woman Sawyer has scorned, I have to keep reminding myself he’s run from karma’s kiss for far too long.

They say you reap what you sow…and Sawyer so deserves what is coming to him.

Rating: 3.5/5 Stars

Review:

This book isn’t told in dual POV, so we only get Madison’s perspective. Despite not getting to see Sawyer’s POV (and Madison’s distain for him from the get-go), he was still likeable, and I was rooting for him early on. The whole plot that Madison and her friend have adds layers of complication to the story, and I would say also kind of makes this a forbidden romance, whether or not Sawyer thinks that.

I won’t give away what it is, but my least favorite trope does make an appearance, which took me out of the story a bit. With that being said, it would be a spoiler to have hinted at it in the synopsis anyway, so I’m torn about that. It kind of came out of nowhere, and I guess that’s the nature of the trope itself, but I don’t necessarily think that the story benefitted from having it.

R.S. Grey books are auto reads for me, since I know that they’ll always be a fun, easy read. The wit in her books and banter between characters is always my favorite thing. Special thanks to Greys Promo and R.S. Grey for letting me read an early copy – the book is out now!
