[ARC REVIEW] ‘Bound To You’ By: Alyssa Brandon

I received this ARC from a fellow blogger–the book was actually released in April 2018 by Swoon Reads!

Official Synopsis:

A stubborn teen faces off with her brooding, indifferent (but super hot) soulmate in this unique and sexy take on a classic paranormal romance story.

She’s met her mate . . . and he’s met his match.

Megan Ross has been waiting her whole life for her mate to come and sweep her off her feet. But the wolf she meets on the beach is NOT the sweet gentle boy she’s been dreaming of. Instead, he’s a warrior, one whose suffering has led him to lock his heart away in a prison as cold and hard as a diamond, who fights to resist the bond and their deep attraction.

Far from home, with a soulmate who is still a stranger, Megan learns that the path to true love isn’t quite as straight and easy as she thought . . .

Chosen by readers like you for Macmillan’s young adult imprint Swoon Reads, Alyssa Brandon’s debut novel Bound to You is guaranteed to make readers swoon, sigh, and maybe even cry before it’s over.

Review:

Alyssa Brandon’s ‘Bound To You’ is a captivating and evocative debut that brings a refreshing angle to the werewolf genre.

As soon as I heard about this book, I knew that I had to have it. I’m not ashamed to admit that I was a huge fan of the Twilight series back when I first read them in middle school, but I haven’t read any books involving werewolves since then. Honestly, I was a little afraid that the book would come across as cliche, but it didn’t! The book is technically young adult fiction, but the range is ages 17 and up.

Although the book is told mostly from Megan’s point of view, James has his own point of view chapters that appear multiple times throughout the novel. I liked reading from both of their views, and overall found them both to be likable characters. Megan felt relatable, and I loved how strong of a character she was, and how she held her own with the boys. James was very cold towards her at first, but he became more likable the more he opened up. I definitely shipped the two of them together! Everyone being werewolves never felt forced or cliche, and the world that Alyssa has created is truly fascinating.

Robin, Tommy, Tobias, Markus, Trist, Doc, Lucy, and the rest of the pack and supporting characters complemented James and Megan nicely, and all had their own distinct characteristics. I definitely wouldn’t complain if any of them had their own spin-off novels. There is a lot left unexplored with all of them, but I read on Alyssa’s website that she is currently working on a sequel, so I can’t wait to read that!

Overall, this is a book that I totally recommend to readers who are 17+ (because of the sexual content that pops up a few times), and I am on the edge of my seat waiting for the sequel! It’s a very strong debut, and I can’t wait to read more of Alyssa’s books.
