What is Snowed in with the Player by Rebecca Jenshak about?
It was supposed to be a weekend of holiday cheer.
Just me and my twin sister, watching Christmas movies and baking cookies.
My brother was absolutely not supposed to show up with half the football team.
Including Teddy. My brother’s best friend and my secret crush.
I’m the shy sister. The one with her nose stuck in a book and quoting every word of Elf, not the one getting attention from guys like Teddy.
He’s cool and smart and so handsome I could die.
The only thing that could make things worse is if I got snowed in with him.
Rating: 4/5 Stars
This novella has more of a young adult feel to me, although I can’t quite pinpoint why. I did start reading this book after reading a pretty heavy new adult college romance with the same trope of brother’s best friend, but aside from that, the two stories couldn’t be more different. Still, the sexual content definitely surpassed young adult, although those scenes didn’t take up a whole lot of the book. I was excited to return to the world of Valley U, though.
The ski lodge was definitely giving me High School Musical vibes, not just High School Musical the movie, but also the HSM companion books…if you know, you know. Holly was super relatable too, because she’s a fast reader and brought books to read instead of skiing…which I’m sure I would do, too.
I loved getting to see more of Felix, after reading about him in “Hating the Player,” one of the Campus Wallflower books. His love story will be the next book in that series releasing in the summer of 2023, and I can’t wait! He’s such a great big brother to Holly and Stella, and it was so great seeing how close the three of them are.
Holly and Teddy were super sweet to read about. It was a nice change of pace for Teddy to be quiet and more reserved (which is kind of how Holly is) even though he’s a star athlete at their college. The two of them having awkward moments felt pretty realistic, and I thought that was a nice touch to the story, too.
We get to see some hints towards the second novella that follows Holly’s twin sister, Stella, as well, which set up the next book nicely. That novella is out now, too! Overall, this is a quick, sweet read that’s great to get you in the holiday spirit. I recommend it for 18+ due to some of the sexual content, but as always, don’t let me tell you what to do!
